How to Block and Unblock Signal on Android

Signal continues to gain traction among users despite being a veteran app in the market, but WhatsApp’s newfound state has led many users to take refuge in a service that claims to be the most secure in today’s mobile ecosystem. And because of that, it has basic security and privacy options like being able to block contacts.

And unlock it, of course. So below we will show you, step by step, how you can block a contact on Signal for Android, so you will never be able to contact us again through the app unless you change the number to a new number. If we regret doing this, we also show you how to reverse and unblock a contact.

It might be a user who keeps contacting us and without our consent, or it may be someone we don’t want to contact again for whatever reason. The fact is that the messaging app includes an option to can block contacts so the conversation stops and Signal also includes this option in its configuration.

To block a contact we can take two paths. The first will consist of finding the contact and blocking him from his Signal user file, although for this we can take two ways, namely locating him with a search or using an active conversation with him. The second way is to go to our Signal store of blocked users and, from there, add them. We show both ways.

Block User from His Files

  • We go to the three vertical buttons at the top right of Signal and go to ‘ Arrangement’ .
  • Once in Settings, we access the section ‘ Privacy’ .
  • In Privacy, we go down until we find ‘ blocked person’ and we access.
  • Once logged in we will see a list with the users we have blocked (if any) and a higher option called ‘ Add blocked people’ . We press it.
  • Signal will then open our contact list (full list of phones, although first there will be contacts with active accounts on Signal).
  • We choose contacts who want us to block (we can use the search above) and click on its name.
  • Signal will then ask us if we are sure and click ‘ Block’ .
  • Ready the user is already blocked and will not be able to contact us, nor will we contact him.

Now, we will show you the reverse method. We will unblock previously blocked contacts so we can continue conversations with them, now or in the future. As in the case of blocking, the user will not know that he is unlocked until he tries to talk to us and checks if the app allows it.

To unblock a contact, again we find two possible paths. The first way is to find out which contact we want to unblock, in this case we just need to look for it in the top search bar or through an active conversation with him. The second way is to go to the repository of blocked users and log them out of there. We show you two steps.
