How to Get Rid & Kill Head Lice

Head lice or lice are tiny parasites that live on the scalp and hair where they survive by sucking blood. The problem of head lice is a common problem of lack of hygiene and is most often found in children’s hair. Head lice will be transmitted from someone who has head lice usually through sleeping overnight, using shared equipment such as pillows, blankets, clothes, towels, combs etc. The most common signs of head lice are itching on the scalp and the appearance of red bumps on the scalp.

Head lice can multiply quickly, it is very difficult to get rid of lice in a few days. Combing with a fine-toothed comb can indeed get rid of them, but it is a long and tedious process. There are some home remedies that will more effectively solve this problem. So here are some natural ways to get rid of head lice:

Garlic to get rid of head lice
The strong smell of garlic makes head lice unbearable, and eventually kills them. Grind eight to 10 cloves of garlic into a paste and mix them with two to three teaspoons of lime juice. Apply the mixture thoroughly to the scalp. Leave it for half an hour and then rinse hair thoroughly with hot (warm) water.

Or, you can choose another way which is to make a thick paste by mixing freshly mashed garlic with cooking oil, lemon extract, green tea and shampoo and conditioner. Stir and apply to the hair thoroughly from the ends to the roots of the hair. Cover your hair with a towel or shower cap for about an hour and a half. Then wash your hair with regular shampoo. Repeat this remedy every week for one to two months.

Olive Oil to get rid of head lice
Olive oil has extraordinary benefits for hair health, namely making hair blacker, shinier, strengthening hair roots as well as having natural moisturizing properties for hair. It can also treat head lice on the scalp so that it has multiple benefits for your hair. Apply olive oil on your hair thoroughly before going to bed. Cover your hair with a shower cap or a towel on your head. In the morning when you wake up comb these tiny parasites using a fine toothed comb and then wash your hair with some herbal shampoo that contains tea tree oil.

Another option is to mix one-half cup of olive oil with one-half cup of conditioner and add some liquid soap to it. Apply this solution to your hair and leave it on for an hour. Then, rinse your hair and apply conditioner. Comb your hair thoroughly to get rid of dead lice. Repeat this remedy again after a week for best results.

Salt to get rid of head lice
Salt can also be used to eradicate head lice on your head. Thoroughly mix a quarter cup of salt and a quarter cup of vinegar. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it all over your hair. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for about two hours. Then wash your hair. Repeat this every three days for positive results.

Coconut Oil can get rid of head lice
First, rinse your hair thoroughly with apple cider vinegar and allow it to dry. Then rub the scalp with coconut oil. Cover your head with a shower cap or towel and leave it on for six to eight hours or overnight. In the morning, comb your hair and then shampoo as usual. Repeat this every day for a week to get rid of lice. To make the treatment more effective, add a few drops of fennel essential oil to coconut oil before application.

White vinegar to kill head lice
Another safe and inexpensive method of getting rid of lice is white vinegar. White vinegar has acetic acid, which can kill fleas.

  • Dilute white vinegar in water (1:1 ratio).
  • Apply it on your hair and scalp and then wrap the towel around your hair for about an hour or two.
