Julybe you love flowers and want to decorate your home table with freshly picked flowers, or you are preparing flowers for a graduation bouquet, wedding or for a birthday program that requires fresh flowers, keep blooming, radiant and stay fresh for a few days, try one of these tips. This one uses household ingredients to make your flowers last longer. Here are the tips:
Fresh Flowers Don’t Practically Wither
Soda
The soda will make the flowers last longer after they are picked. Pour about 1/4 cup of soda into the water in a vase full of cut flowers. The sugar in the soda will make the flowers last longer.
Hair spray
Hairspray or hair spray besides being able to maintain your hairstyle, spritz hair spray can help you keep flowers looking fresh again. Spraying on the underside of the leaves and flower petals will keep the flowers fresh longer and not wilt easily.
Apple cider vinegar
Everyone who loves fresh flowers loves to keep their cut flowers fresh for as long as possible, and there are several methods you can use. One way is to mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of sugar with vase water before adding the flowers. Be sure to change the water (with more vinegar and sugar, of course) every few days to increase your flowers’ longevity.
Aspirin
Aspirin or a headache reliever can keep roses and other cut flowers fresh longer. Place the crushed aspirin in the water before adding the flowers to your vase. Also, don’t forget to change the vase water every few days.
Bleach
New cut flowers will last longer if you add 1/4 teaspoon bleach per liter (1 liter) of vase water. Another way you can use is to add 3 drops of bleach and 1 teaspoon of sugar in 1 liter of water (1 liter). This will keep the water and inhibit the growth of bacteria.
Sugar
Make your own preservative to keep cut flowers fresh again. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar per liter (liter) of warm water. Sugar keeps plants fresh, while vinegar inhibits bacterial growth. You’d be surprised how long your flowers stay fresh.
