Solving Windows Media Player Can’t Open

The cause of the inability to open the program is that there is an error from the program itself. However, if an error code appears, it will be easier to identify.

In this article, we will share some solutions to fix them, and you can do them one by one to make sure Windows Media Player can be opened again. And all the methods shared here are very safe and do not pose any risk.

1. Run Troubleshooter

The main way is to reset the settings of Windows Media Player via the Troubleshooter. Because it could be that the problem you are experiencing is caused by the wrong settings, so the program cannot be opened normally.

To run the Troubleshooter, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click button WINDOWS+R on the keyboard.

  2. Type the command below in the column

    msdt.exe -id WindowsMediaPlayerConfigurationDiagnostic
  3. After that click ENTER.

  4. And follow the troubleshooter process to completion.

2. Re-registering Lost DLL Files

It is possible that there are important DLL files that are not listed in the Registry thus impacting the program. But you can re-register it by typing the command below via the command prompt.

Please open it first Command Prompt and make sure to run it as Administrator. Then run one by one of the three commands below.

regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 wmp.dll

Again, run the above commands one by one to make it work. And then restart the computer, then try to reopen Windows Media Player. Is it possible now?

3. Reinstall Windows Media Player

If at this point the Windows Media Player program still can’t be opened, then the only effective way is to reinstall the program so that it comes back like new again. And here’s how:

  1. Click START/SEARCH, then type Turn Windows Features On or Off and ENTER.

  2. Double click on Media Features.

  3. Next remove checkbox in Windows Media Player.

  4. Then restart the computer to start removing the program.

  5. After the restart is complete, it is time to reinstall the program. Please do the first step above.

  6. And now give a checkbox in Windows Media Player.

  7. The last stage, restart the computer.

So in conclusion, you have to restart twice. The first is to remove the program, and the second is to install it. It’s a little complicated, but if you practice it right away, the method above is actually very easy to do.

Can you open the Windows Media Player program on your computer now? If previously the problem was not severe enough, the first method would have been able to fix it. However, even if it is fairly severe, it can still be overcome by reinstalling the program.

Hopefully useful and good luck
