Vaginal discharge or Fluor Albus is a vaginal secretion in women. Vaginal discharge can basically be classified into two groups, namely normal vaginal discharge (physiological) and abnormal vaginal discharge (pathological). Physiological vaginal discharge is vaginal discharge that usually occurs every month, usually appears before menstruation or after menstruation or the fertile period. Pathological vaginal discharge can be caused by pus usually accompanied by itching inside the vagina and around the outer vaginal lips. What often causes this vaginal discharge include bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. This infection can spread and cause inflammation to the urinary tract, causing pain when the patient urinates.
Symptoms of Leucorrhoea
Common symptoms that occur in normal vaginal discharge
Normal vaginal discharge (physiological), actually not white and not suitable to be called vaginal discharge, is much influenced by the hormonal system, so the amount of vaginal secretions/fluid is very dependent on the monthly cycle and stress which can also affect the monthly cycle itself.
- Secretion fluid is clear, not sticky and watery.
- Does not emit a pungent odor.
- This symptom is a normal process before or after menstruation and a sign of the fertile period in certain women.
- In newborn girls, within one to ten days, fluid can come out from the vagina due to the effects of hormones produced by the placenta or urine.
- Young girls sometimes also experience vaginal discharge shortly before puberty, usually these signs will go away on their own.
- Usually normal vaginal discharge is not accompanied by itching. Vaginal discharge can also be experienced by women who are too tired or whose immune system is weak. Most of the fluid comes from the cervix, although some comes from an infected vagina, or external genitalia.
- In pregnant women, vaginal discharge occurs more often, because when a woman is pregnant, her immune system will decrease.
- At the time of menopause where the hormonal balance is disturbed.
- In elderly people where their immunity has decreased, vaginal discharge can also occur
Common symptoms that occur in abnormal (pathological) vaginal discharge
- Thick white, yellowish white, greenish white or grayish white discharge from the vaginal entrance. This liquid can be runny or thick, sticky and sometimes foamy.
- This liquid emits a pungent rancidity.
- In certain patients, there is itching that accompanies it and can cause irritation to the vagina.
- Is one of the characteristics of dangerous vaginal pus disease such as HIV, Herpes, Candyloma.
